題目：Sensorimotor representations for native and non-native phoneme perception ( 大腦如何辨識母語與外語語音？)
摘要：In this talk, I will discuss the role of the motor system in speech perception. Research shows that both the motor and auditory systems are essential for this process, supporting the idea that language is grounded in our sensory and motor experiences. However, the exact role of motor activity in speech perception remains debated, with some suggesting it plays a modulatory function. Using a combination of behavioral and fMRI studies with multivariate analyses, we found that motor activity is somatotopically organized, mapping articulatory features, particularly when listening to native phonemes under challenging conditions. Additionally, our findings reveal that phonetic features are specifically encoded in sensorimotor brain regions, both within and across native and non-native languages. Overall, our findings suggest that sensorimotor brain regions are actively involved in encoding perceived phonetic features, particularly place and manner of articulation. This process reflects a complex interplay of articulatory gestures and the integration of auditory and motor systems.
