Editorial Policy

Taiwan Journal of Linguistics is an international journal dedicated to the publication of research papers on linguistics and welcomes contributions in all areas of the scientific study of language. Review articles of linguistics-related books and informal book announcements are also welcome. Contributions may be submitted from all countries and are accepted all year round. The language of publication is English. There are no restrictions on regular submission; however, manuscripts simultaneously submitted to other publications cannot be accepted. Submissions by regular mail and electronic mail are both accepted.
The TJL adheres to a strict standard of double-blind reviews to minimize any biases that might be caused by knowledge of the author’s gender, culture, or standing within the professional community. Once a manuscript is determined as potentially suitable for the journal after an initial screening by the editor, all information that may identify the author is removed, and copies are sent to at least two qualified reviewers. The selection of reviewers is based purely on professional considerations and their identity will not be revealed by The TJL.
All feedback from the reviewers, except such comments as may be specifically referred to the attention of the editor, is faithfully relayed to the authors to assist them in improving their work, regardless of whether the paper is to be accepted, accepted upon minor revision, revised and resubmitted, or rejected

History

The Taiwan Journal of Linguistics (TJL ISSN:1729-4649), now open access, is a peer-reviewed international journal of linguistics published by Crane Publishing in Taiwan. Its editorship is under the governance of the Graduate Institute of Linguistics and the Department of English, National Chengchi University (NCCU). The TJL is published in one volume per year, consisting of a spring issue and a fall issue. The language of publication is English.
The idea of a commercially-backed, professionally-edited international linguistics journal in Taiwan was first proposed to Crane Publishing, the leading publisher and bookseller in the area of linguistics in the country, by Professor One-Soon Her, the then chair of the Graduate Institute of Linguistics, National Chengchi University, in the fall of 2002. A formal agreement was then reached between Crane and NCCU and a proper infrastructure established. The first issue of The TJL appeared in the first half of 2003 and it has been published regularly ever since. In 2004, The TJL also launched its monograph series with an international call for manuscripts. Its first monograph was published in the same year, and number two and three are already in the planning. In 2005, The TJL launched the Book Series in Chinese Linguistics and the fist volume is currently in press. TJL is indexed in: MLA International Bibliography, MLA Directory of Periodicals, CSA Linguistics & Language Behavior Abstracts, and THCI Core.

Monograph and Book Series

The aim of The TJL Monograph Series and Book Series is to aid linguists in Taiwan make research findings available to a wider domestic and international readership. Researchers in academic fields in Taiwan are frequently forced to resort to the unprofessional practice of ‘self-publishing’, especially for presentation of a major work which may be submitted in application for promotion. Linguists in Taiwan now have an alternative in that The TJL offers a professional channel for book-length manuscripts to be anonymously peer-reviewed, formally published, and commercially distributed. The same standards that apply to TJL journal articles apply here as well.
